INTRODUCTION:

Why do we do this?

Boxing has changed people’s lives, it has saved people’s lives, and it has given things to people they never thought they would have, and never knew how to achieve.

Like courage to stand up for oneself, boxing has given people confidence and a level of self-esteem that has enabled them to make decisions that could change the course of their lives.

Life can sometimes be like a fight and sometimes we need to be ‘box clever’ to avoid the big hits that are thrown at us, to get through the daily hardships by keeping our guard up, and by thinking our way through the challenges we face each day.

The importance of thinking things through and developing a strategy is transferable into the way a person lives their life which makes boxing relatable to life and how we cope with different problems, and how we implement solutions to those problems.

Research confirms that many successful boxers throughout history have come from poverty, hardship, and other negative influences and yet from these disadvantaged positions they found that through boxing they have ultimately overcome adversity to become world champions.

OUR GOALS:

Through our boxing school programs our aim is to develop qualities in our Tamariki and Rangatahi such as confidence, through correct training and preparation which will teach how this conquers the untrained and unprepared athlete and person. Our focus goes beyond the physicality of boxing – extending into the psychological aspect of how to overcome fear, how to practice and show respect, and how to comprehend gratitude and appreciation, amongst many other positive attributes.

Another of our objectives is to encourage our Tamariki and Rangatahi not to see boxing as an act of violence against others, but to study the art of boxing and understand the science and the thinking that is required to become good at it.

Our boxing school programs involve a high degree of mental participation to ingrain the correct thinking, decision making ability, and self-discipline that is required to become a successful life contributor.

Our programs have a strong emphasis on learning through teamwork, explaining fundamentals, and nurturing an invested interest in self-worth and the worth of others.

Furthermore, our programs are applicable to everyday life – being able to transfer the responsibilities of attending the boxing school to instilling in our Tamariki and Rangatahi their everyday obligations.

A further difference with our boxing school programs is that we can offer a long-term plan for Tamariki and Rangatahi if they show the loyalty, dedication, and desire to succeed.

STRUCTURE:

Tamariki and Rangatahi join cohorts of up to five or six others. Within this cohort there is a peer with established responsibility who inspires the group with their guidance and leadership. The cohorts are overseen by the class facilitator.

PARTICIPATION:

Equality and fairness are primary values that are instilled in all team members of Glozier Boxing.

As a valued team member and contributor to their group, Tamariki and Rangatahi are required to participate in every aspect of the boxing school program. This includes (but is not limited to); their physical participation in training, they help their team with drills, they help with setting up tasks before and tidying up tasks afterwards. This is all applicable to everyday life – being able to transfer the responsibility of turning up to class, contributing, showing commitment, helping to clean up – to taking care of what is expected at school and/or what is expected at home.

There is a strong emphasis on giving motivation and support to each other to encourage fellowship, camaraderie, diversity, inclusion, and breaking down cultural differences.
